Risk Management, Compliance and Internal Audit
Every level of PT Indo Arthabuana Investama takes part in managing risk through the Three Lines of Defence, because managing risk is the responsibility of everyone in the organisation.
First line of defence: risk owners
Risk owners form the first line: the heads of investment and research; trading; securities settlement; marketing and client complaints; information technology; accounting and finance; and human resources. They manage risk in business processes by:
- identifying, assessing, controlling and mitigating risk;
- implementing internal controls over risk and the risk management framework; and
- making sure the risks they manage stay within limits.
Second line of defence: risk management and compliance
The independent risk management and compliance function forms the second line. It oversees the first line's risk management by:
- supporting management policy in setting roles and responsibilities, and the direction and objectives of risk management;
- preparing the risk management framework and tools;
- identifying current risk management issues;
- identifying changes in risk appetite;
- helping management develop risk processes and controls;
- providing guidance and training on risk management processes;
- facilitating and monitoring risk management by operational management;
- alerting operational management to emerging issues and regulatory changes; and
- monitoring the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls, the accuracy and completeness of reporting, compliance with laws and regulations, and the remedying of weaknesses in risk control.
Third line of defence: internal audit
The independent internal audit function forms the third line. It:
- assesses and reports on the design and effectiveness of the risk management framework;
- tests key controls in business processes; and
- reviews the work of the first and second lines.
